Why does waterproofing matter so much?

How long is the bathroom out of action?

Accepted Answer

The planning guide is 8-12 days for a common bathroom, 10-14 for a master and 12-18 for both, subject to approval, concealed conditions, selected waterproofing-system cure intervals, inspection or testing, tile and fixture lead times and snag work. The dated programme should identify service interruptions and when each bathroom can safely return to use; it is not a fixed day-by-day guarantee.

Can we keep some of the existing tiles?

Accepted Answer

Possibly, but only after checking the approved scope, tile and substrate condition, levels, drainage falls, junctions and what happens to the existing waterproofing. Retention, local repair, overlay or full removal have different risks and HDB conditions. The written method should explain what remains, how compatibility is checked and which areas cannot be warranted as newly rebuilt.

Selection depends on exact model, dimensions, water and electrical requirements, stock and compatibility with the approved layout. Record the supplier, model, price, installation responsibility and current manufacturer-warranty terms in the quote; SparkFlow does not replace the product warranty for owner-supplied items.

Can I relocate the toilet, basin, or shower in my HDB?

Accepted Answer

Relocation is assessed case by case. HDB conditions, the approved wet area, slab and wall restrictions, soil-pipe connection, drainage falls, water services, waterproofing and fixture clearances all matter. Do not assume a one-metre or any other shift is standard. The HDB-registered renovation contractor and appropriate licensed plumber should confirm what is permitted before drawings and prices are finalised.

Do you handle the electrical too?

We can coordinate the electrical scope, but ME05 L1 is a BCA contractor workhead, not an EMA worker licence. New or altered fixed wiring must be handled by an appropriately licensed electrical worker, who should assess the bathroom zones, equipment ratings, circuit protection and manufacturer requirements for the actual layout.

How do I check the waterproofing scope?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the exact membrane product and data sheet, preparation and junction details, specified coverage and curing intervals, photo records before covering, the agreed water-test method where applicable, and written warranty terms. Those are more useful than an unsupported promise that a generic number of layers cannot fail.

What if I have an aging-in-place need (grab bars, low-threshold shower)?

Accepted Answer

Start with the user's mobility, reach, transfer and caregiver needs, then coordinate clearances, drainage, waterproofing and a structural fixing detail for grab bars or seats. Slip resistance must be checked against the exact floor product and intended wet use, not a marketing label alone. Accessibility scope and price require measured design and may benefit from an occupational-therapy or other appropriate assessment.
