Why does post-renovation painting cost more than a normal repaint?

Extra prep — dust removal across the whole unit, repairing renovation damage, sealing bare cement / new plaster, multiple primer coats for raw surfaces. Typical $300-500 more than a like-for-like repaint of a finished unit. We itemise on the quote so you see exactly what's added.

How long does it take?

3-room HDB: 2.5-3 days (vs 1.5-2 days for a repaint). 4-room: 3-4 days. 5-room: 3.5-4.5 days. Larger / landed: by quote. The extra time is mostly the prep + the longer drying between coats on bare cement.

Question 3

Should I do this before or after I move my furniture in?

Accepted Answer

Before — significantly easier and cheaper. The empty unit allows full access + no risk to furniture. Adds an extra day of speed compared to working around furniture.

Question 4

What if my renovation contractor was supposed to paint?

Accepted Answer

Some reno packages include paint, others don't (or only include builder-grade flat white). If you want a proper premium finish + colour selection, hiring us after the reno is common and gives you control over the result.

Do you handle the dust ourselves, or do I need a separate cleaner?

Accepted Answer

Initial reno-dust removal across walls + horizontal surfaces is part of our scope. Deep cleaning of floors / cabinets / electrical fixtures = separate — we have a cleaning service for that (/services/cleaning) and can quote both as one bundle.

Question 6

Will the new colour cover stains from the reno?

Accepted Answer

Light stains (smudges, dust marks): yes. Heavy stains (water marks, oil, rust, smoke): need a stain sealer first, then paint. We test on a small patch and decide on site. Sealer adds $80-150 to the job depending on affected area.

Question 7

Can you paint over freshly-installed wallpaper?

Accepted Answer

Strongly not recommended. Paint will peel off the wallpaper finish unless we prime first with a wallpaper-compatible primer. Better to either paint over old wallpaper (after stripping) OR pick wallpaper instead of paint — not both at once.

Question 8

What about ceiling, doors, and skirting?

Accepted Answer

Ceiling refresh (flat white): included. Door frames + skirting touch-up: included where existing finish takes. Full door re-paint: separate quote (some doors need sanding + lacquer rather than emulsion).
