How do I know my aircon needs gas?

Symptoms: cools weakly even on max, frost forming on the suction pipe (the larger insulated copper line outside), unit cycles on/off rapidly, hissing sounds from the outdoor unit. But before assuming gas, also check: dirty filter (most common), blocked outdoor unit, dirty coil. We diagnose all three at once.

How much does gas top-up cost in Singapore?

R32: $120-180 incl. leak test + small top-up. R410A: $140-200. R22: $160-240 (rarer + more expensive). If a major leak is found that needs repair: brazing repair adds $80-150. Full system re-gas (after a major leak fix): $200-350 depending on unit size + refrigerant.

Why is R22 more expensive than R32?

R22 was phased out under the Montreal Protocol. New stock isn't manufactured, only existing inventory. As supply shrinks, price climbs. We still carry small quantities for older units but recommend upgrading the unit if it needs more than a tiny top-up.

What if you find a leak?

We tell you upfront — leak location, repair cost, vs replacement cost if the leak is in a non-repairable spot (e.g. inside the compressor body). You decide. Common: copper-joint leak at the outdoor unit → $80-150 brazing fix + re-gas.

How long does gas top-up take?

60 min for a basic top-up. 90-120 min if leak-test required first. 2-3 hours if a leak repair + re-gas is needed.

How often does aircon need gas?

If properly installed + maintained: never. Refrigerant is in a closed loop — it should last the life of the unit. If you've topped up more than twice in 5 years, there's a slow leak somewhere worth finding.

Is R32 better than R410A?

Accepted Answer

Yes — R32 has roughly one-third the global warming potential of R410A and is slightly more efficient. All new units (2018+ in Singapore) ship with R32. You can't convert an R410A system to R32 — different oil + components. But it's worth knowing when buying replacement.

Do I need to be home?

Yes — we need access to both the indoor unit (gauges + electrical check) and the outdoor unit (refrigerant connection). Usually requires balcony or AC ledge access too.
